The East Perth District Year 8/9 Schoolgirls Carnival was held at RA Cooke Reserve on Thursday with teams enjoying perfect playing conditions for most the day. The carnival is in just its second year and has doubled in size with 8 teams and over 160 girls participating in 2008
With many never having played football before the carnival is a fantastic way to introduce young females to the game in a safe and fun environment.
East Perth District Development Officer Stephanie Walding said the day was all about fun. "For many of these girls this is the one time a year they can play competitive football so our aim is to make it a positive and enjoyable experience. We would then love to see them move into their respective Smarter than Smoking Schoolgirls teams and eventually into the women's league."
The teams participated in a round robin competition and then played off for the final standings. Kingsway Christian College managed to hold off a determined John Septimus Roe team in the clash for first place, winning by just 5 points.
