PEEL Thunder has shot clear on top of the WAFL Colts for 2019 following a win over Swan Districts on Saturday while there were also Round 12 victories for East Perth, Claremont and West Perth.

Peel and Swan Districts have been the two standout teams so far in the colts season for 2019, but now it is the Thunder who have pulled away two be two games and significant percentage clear on top of the ladder after 12 rounds.

The Thunder and Swans met for the first time of the season this Saturday at Mandurah's David Grays Arena and it was Peel who proved too strong, beating Swan Districts 10.17 (77) to 5.9 (39).

West Perth also continued its impressive form in the colts by knocking off the reigning premiers Subiaco at HBF Arena on Saturday, with the Falcons prevailing 10.10 (70) to 5.9 (39).

East Perth consolidated fourth position on the colts table with a strong performance at Leederville Oval with the Royals beating Perth 10.9 (69) to 5.4 (34).

Claremont then maintained fifth position and put a two-game gap on the chasing pack with a big win over East Fremantle at Claremont Oval, winning 13.12 (90) to 2.10 (22).

ROUND 12 SIMPLY ENERGY COLTS

EAST PERTH 10.9 (69) defeated PERTH 5.4 (34)

East Perth made it three straight wins in the colts competition to be a game clear now in fourth position following Saturday's 35-point victory against Perth at Leederville Oval.

The Royals came into the game following strong wins against Claremont and East Fremantle since their WA Day loss to West Perth, and they continued that momentum against the Demons on Saturday.

East Perth started well enough too kicking two goals to one in the opening quarter but Perth stayed in touch and with both teams kicking two goals apiece in the second term, the Royals only held a nine-point advantage.

The Royals kicked two more goals to one in the third quarter and then stamped their authority with four goals to one in the final term to run out 10.9 (69) to 5.4 (34) winners.

The win improves East Perth to a 6-4 record on the season to sit in fourth position on the ladder while Perth slips further out of finals contention at 3-7 with the lowest percentage in the competition.

Claremont might have started the season slowly, but the Tigers have long been the dominant force at colts level over a sustained period now and Saturday's thumping win went a long way to securing them yet another finals appearance.

Coming off a loss the previous week to East Perth, Claremont bounced back strongly and it all started with a remarkably dominant opening term.

Claremont had the only nine scoring shots in the first quarter and kicked five goals from those to lead by 34 points.

East Fremantle did manage a goal in the second quarter but Claremont kicked three more of their own to lead by 45 points at the half-time break.

The Tigers then restricted the Sharks to three points in the third quarter while kicking three more goals themselves. It was then another two goals to one in the last term with Claremont running out 13.12 (90) to 2.10 (22) winners.

PEEL THUNDER 10.17 (77) defeated SWAN DISTRICTS 5.9 (39)

Peel Thunder remain the standout team this colts season after 12 rounds following their impressive 38-point win over Swan Districts at Mandurah's David Grays Arena on Saturday.

The game featured the top two teams from right throughout the colts season to date so always promised to be a tremendous contest even with the WA State 18s stars absent from both line-ups.

Peel did come into the clash in the better form having won their past four matches since their lone loss of the season back in Round 6 against Claremont at Claremont Oval.

Swan Districts, meanwhile, had won their opening seven matches of the season on the back of reaching last year's Grand Final before losing to Claremont by three points in Round 10 and then by five goals to West Perth last week.

But top spot still went on the line in Mandurah on Saturday when the two sides met for the first time since last year's preliminary final.

Peel started the better with two goals to one in the first quarter to lead by seven points at quarter-time before adding two goals and holding Swans to one behind in the second stanza to lead by 23 points at half-time.

Swan Districts fired back to make a real game of it, though, in the third quarter kicking three goals to one behind and suddenly it was a two-point ball game by three quarter-time.

But Peel had the answers in the last quarter with six goals to one to take out the 10.17 (77) to 5.9 (39) victory.

The win improves Peel to a 9-1 record on the season to be two games and significant percentage clear in top spot. Swan Districts remains second at 7-3 despite losing their past three matches.

WEST PERTH 10.10 (70) defeated SUBIACO 5.9 (39)

West Perth continued its tremendous colts form on Saturday with a 31-point victory over reigning premiers Subiaco at HBF Arena.

West Perth came into the contest following impressive wins in its last two colts appearances against East Perth and Swan Districts, and they continued that momentum on home soil against the Lions on Saturday.

The Falcons started encouragingly kicking the only two goals of the opening quarter but Subiaco hit back in the second term and West Perth only held a nine-point lead by half-time.

But West Perth kicked away in the third quarter with five goals to one in the third quarter, and then it was a goal apiece in the fourth term with the Falcons beating the Lions 10.10 (70) to 5.9 (39).

The victory improves West Perth to a 7-3 record on the season to be in third position and only percentage behind the second placed Swan Districts.
