Scott flags consistency as key

After a year of re-building in 2019, midfielder Angus Scott is confident that East Perth are hungrier than ever to attack a new decade.

But the 24-year-old admits his side won’t move up the ladder until they start delivering in all four quarters.

“We played well in patches last year and showed we could match it with the top teams,” Scott said.

“(But) now, we’ve got a few more recruits and another year under the belt for a lot of our younger boys.

“With our brand of footy, the way we move the ball, and with consistency and effort each week, it will hopefully put us in contention each game.”

Scott was recruited from the Casey Demons in the VFL, where he cut his teeth as a forward, using his speed and agility to impact the contest.

The Victorian ended a strong first season in the west with a top 10 finish in the FD Book Medal voting count.

“It was good to come over and play a bit of a different role than back home,” he said.

“I played a bit more forward (at Casey) and last year playing mid was a good opportunity.

“Obviously though, as a team we didn’t perform the way we would have liked to.

“It was a good experience to come over, to try something new and do something different (but) now I’m ready to tackle another year.”

Scott’s running power is suited to Western Australia’s large playing decks and he hopes to spend time both in the midfield and forward line during 2020.

“I’d like to keep adding to my game,” he said.

“I’d like to continue to combine both of them (midfield and forward time) and use the running ability that I have – the grounds are pretty big over here.”

East Perth recruited strongly over the summer, securing former AFL duo Nick Robertson (Brisbane) and Angus Schumacher (Carlton), Jake Veide (SANFL), Aidan Lynch (West Perth) and Corey Watts (Sandringham Dragons).

“They’ll be huge,” Scott said.

“Robbo (Robertson) obviously played a fair few AFL games and will add some inside grunt that we really need.

“Noodle (Schumacher) is a really good addition, he gets along well with all the boys. He’s been living with Ramma (Jackson Ramsay) and has got some nice skills. The way he attacks training, he’s been doing really well.

“Jake’s (Veide) another big bodied mid. He’ll give some good experience and depth to the list.

“(Hopefully) we can all feed off each other.”
