Message from our President and CEO
Dear all valued members, sponsors and supporters,
The West Australian Football League, WAFLW, and WA Talent programs have been postponed until May 31 in an effort to reduce the spread of Coronavirus throughout our community.
The decision has been made together with the AFL and State football bodies around Australia as part of a national approach to protect the well-being of all players, coaches, umpires, officials, staff and volunteers.
At this early stage, the club does not know what the fixtures will look like, how many games will be in the season, whether crowds will be permitted or what the proposed mini draft looks like and how it will affect the WAFL.
The current situation the world faces is one we have not encountered during our proud history. Our great club and competition has made it through World Wars and depression and we are determined to play our part to ensure the rich heritage of East Perth and the WAFL not only survives but flourishes in the years to come in the wake of this outbreak.
The health and safety of our players, staff and supporters must come first. This has always been our number one priority, which is why we will support the recommendations given to us from the AFL and WAFC.
The club is currently putting into place stringent strategies to protect our people from the spread of COVID-19. These strategies, we are confident, will help ensure that our teams remain as healthy as they can amidst the current pandemic. We are confident our measures are as good as any. They will give us the best chance of keeping our people safe.
It goes without saying this is an unheralded situation for the football community. As a collective, we need to show resilience, flexibility and support to successfully navigate our way through these extraordinary circumstances.
What will be so very important during these times is your continued loyalty, support and commitment to the club we all hold so dear. What we would like to ask is for you to maintain your loyalty. Your support of the club through your membership is imperative and we ask you to encourage others to do the same.
We urge you all to continue to support other clubs you are part of, as well as local businesses. We are fortunate to live in an incredible community and we are all relying on each other’s support to get through this situation.
Our board, staff and players are all working incredibly hard to make the best out of this situation. Thank you again for your support as a member. We will continue to do our best to communicate any updates to you as soon as we are able to; as you are aware from news reports, things are changing from hour to hour at this point.
On behalf of everyone at the club, including all our players and staff, please take care of yourselves and those around you.
