Following yesterdays AFL Draft Ben Stratton (right) will join former Royal Gary Moss at Hawthorn while Mitch Duncan will join Geelong to play along side Joel Corey, a player that many people have likened him to.
Mitch Duncan was taken with pick 28 and on Geelong’s website National recruiting manager Stephen Wells talks about Mitch Duncan, "He's a beautiful kick, has a strong body and he's played senior footy for East Perth. We think he's also a versatile player who can do a good job for us.
"Daniel Menzel (Pick 17) and Mitch have both played football against men this year in good quality competitions, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to cope with AFL footy next year."
Ben Stratton was taken at pick 46 by Hawthorn after having an impressive year for the Royals. His versatility and ability to play on big or small forwards as well as his ability overhead are a perfect fit for Hawthorn who struggled defensively in 2009 with the loss of Trent Croad.
Hawthorn General manager of player personnel and strategy Chris Pelchen is quoted on the Hawks website describing Ben Stratton.
“He is a very athletic boy. He runs the 20m sprint in 2.93 seconds. He is a right footer who is a late starter to WAFL footy. He has only played there the last two seasons. It’s a combination of his athleticism and speed and his strongest asset, I would say is that he plays the game very similarly to Darren Glass. He is a guy who has an uncanny ability to get an arm in to make spoils. He adds to our defensive group.”
The Club wishes both players all the best at their future Clubs.
