East Perth’s players returned to the training track as day one of pre-season got underway late last week.

The squad were put through their paces in a 2km time trial at Medibank Stadium last Thursday. 2014 FD Book medallist Steven Payne finished at the front of the group.

With the traditional start of the AFL season pushed back until early April next year, to accommodate the cricket World Cup, the WAFL is predicted to begin mid March.

While the players have been on break since early October, they all looked in fine form.

They eased back into training with a weights and cross training session on Monday afternoon, before a skills session on Tuesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, the players' new facilities have begun to take shape as the Gym and changerooms are renovated over the summer break.

Construction began on Monday, with the undercroft redesigned to make way for an extended gym and  player wet area, complete with ice baths. The changerooms will also undergo some changes with the carpets being replaced in time for next year.
