Bronte celebrates 60th Birthday

Thursday, December 4, 2014 - 9:21 AM

President, Bronte Howson, celebrated his 60th Birthday at the club last night with the board, sponsors, senior players and staff.

“This was a total surprise, it really was”, Bronte, who has been the President of East Perth since 1999, said.

“I fronted up here for the five o’clock board meeting and I actually walked into the room, saw no one was there and I thought they haven’t even organized it yet! What’s going on? No paper work?”

“So I thought I’d go downstairs to see Dean and Dean’s office door was closed. When they opened the door and I saw most of the board members sitting around the table and the meeting was about to finish…. I thought obviously the Rolex has stopped”, he joked.

Guests drank from ice-cold Crown Lagers - the President’s favourite beverage, that were specially labeled with his name celebrating the occassion and Bronte cut a chocolate cake.

Co-captain Craig Wulff spoke of the importance of having Bronte around the Club to his own and his teammates playing experience.

“It’s been very easy being at this club with you around Bronte, obviously we don’t have a great deal of history together because we haven’t won that elusive premiership and for that I’m forever in debt”.

“I can guarantee we’ll be busting our arses to try and get that flag, hopefully we can get that little bit of extra success that we’ve been striving for".

“So, Happy Birthday Bront on behalf of all the players at the Club”, Wulff said.

Brian Bowley said a few words on behalf of the board, reflecting on the time he has known Bronte.

“The passion that he has for the players, for the supporters for the sponsors is just fantastic”.

“The loyalty that he extends is second to none, all of us here and for hundreds of others I’m sure that loyalty goes back the same way”, Bowley said,

“It honestly was a genuine surprise”, Bronte said.

“I really thank Dean for organizing it and thank everyone for making the time to be here”.

“It’s sensational”.
