Royals Notch Up First Win
East Perth notched up their first win of the McDonalds 2015 WAFL Premiership Season holding off a fast finishing Swan Districts 16.13. 109 to 15.6. 96.
The Royals lead at every change and lead by 46 at 3/4 time. The Swans came out of the huddle all cylinders firing with 3 goals in 5 minutes and winning the last quarter 7 goals to 2.
It was a true show of character by the Royals to hold on after the loss of Paul Johnson (concussion) and Murray Newman (rolled ankle) left the East Perth with a depleted bench for the majority of the 2nd half.
2014 FD Book Medallist Steven Payne was back to his ball winning best with an impressive 31 touches and 11 marks. Josh Hill led the way up forward with 3 goals whilst Brant Colledge and Alec Waterman were important through the midfield. Wingman Freddie Clutterbuck was dangerous providing run and finishing with 2 goals, with Garry Moss collecting 25 touches in his new role off halfback. Liam Duggan continued to show his potential with 15 first half possesions.
The Reserves continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 35-point win. Bolstered by the inclusion of Mitch Howlett (21 disposals and a goal), our young side ran away with the game in the second half. Tom Shanahan was impressive with a game high 27 touches and late inclusion Blake Riley was instrumental with 3 goals.
The Colts were left to rue another slow start suffering a 10-goal loss. Will Young was a stand out with 21 touches and 2 goals. Sam Powell-Pepper continues to show he is a player to watch in the future being named in the best for the 2nd time in only his 2nd game.
This weeks match is against Subiaco on Good Friday at Medibank Stadium. The League game starts at 3.00pm
