Royals Reign Over Tigers
East Perth outstayed Claremont in a hard fought Elimination Final on Sunday winning 13.15 (93) to 9.7 (61). The game spoke volumes for the Leagues decision to move to a top 5 finals system with both teams showing they were deserved of September action. It was a very even contest throughout the day with East Perth taking a 5 point advantage into the 4th quarter. A strong wind and fresher legs saw the Royals keep the tigers scoreless in the last quarter
The Royals were led by Co-Captain Brendan Lee who gathered 35 touches, 4 tackles and goal in a best a field performance. He was ably supported in the midfield by Steven Payne (35 possessions) and Kane Lucas (30 and 2 goals). Mitch Howlett was also impressive with 24 touches and 2 goals. Rowan Powell was damaging in the forward line with 3 goals and 8 marks in his best game wearing the black and blue.
In the Reserves East Perth went down in a nail biter to West Perth at HBF Stadium. Looking seemingly out of the contest at half time the East Perth boys rallied lead by Shayne Hille and Beau Chatley to dominate the 2nd half. Unfortunately for the Royals this dominance did not translate to the scoreboard and a few missed shots and a ‘poster’ saw our boys go down by 3 points and out of finals contention.
Well done and thank you to Adam Pickering, his coaching and support staff as well as all our volunteers who helped the Reserves team throughout the year. Brendan Lee made mention at presentations after the match that it is the closest knit Reserves squads he has seen in his time at East Perth. With a strong preseason under their belts this young squad can expect big things individually and as a squad in 2016.
East Perth will now travel down to Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday to take on Peel Thunder in another must win clash.
The League game saw the career of Mark Seaby draw to a close. A fantastic product of WA football, Seaby played for having played for West Perth, West Coast, Sydney and Claremont. Congratulations Mark on a stellar career.
