Shanahan Wins The Prendergast Medal
Young East Perth player Thomas Shanahan has taken out the Prendergast Medal as the best and fairest player in the 2015 WAFL Reserves competition.
Winning the Prendergast Medal is an outstanding achievement in itself but Tom’s win is made even more impressive due to Tom being promoted to the League team for 4 matches throughout the season.
A noted ball winner Shanahan averaged 28.5 disposals a game. In our Round 7 clash against South Fremantle Tom gathered a staggering season high 42 touches. Tom was also regularly named as the Reserves Captain, a role that is rotated through our young group.
Growing up in the East Perth metro zone, Tom came to the club from Marist Junior Football Club following in the footsteps of another Marist Junior Garry Moss. Shanahan is a product of the club’s development system and Colts program having captained the Colts in 2013. The same year he took out the Hec Strempel Medal as the Colts Best and Fairest player.
Tom is the sixth Royal to win the Prendergast Medal with the last winner being Adam Clarke in 1989.
