Western Australia’s most talented young footballers will benefit from a stronger partnership between the WA State Academy and NAB AFL Academy program next season.
From 2019, the AFL’s national Academy program will provide an opportunity for 30 West Australian players to attend high performance camps conducted in partnership with the WAFC and State Academy to provide specialised coaching to more players.
This will include a mixture of 17 to 19-year-old players as part of a national upgrade to the NAB AFL Academy, announced recently by the AFL.

Naylor and Whinnen honoured in Hall of Fame
WA football champions Bernie Naylor and Mel Whinnen have been inducted into the Australian Football Hall Of Fame at a function hosted by the AFL on Tuesday night in Melbourne.
Bernie Naylor was a champion player for South Fremantle. The fast leading full-forward kicked over 1000 goals in nine seasons of league football, and more than 100 goals in a season five times.
Naylor’s football career began in 1941, but he missed the next four seasons when the competition was suspended due to World War II. He served as a signal man in Darwin and New Guinea, where he practised his goal kicking between palm trees.

GEORGE Hampson has been the barometer at East Fremantle since arriving from Subiaco in 2015 and on Saturday he just wasn’t going to let the Sharks' losing run continue as he put in a performance that made him a lock to be the M & J Chickens Player of Round 8.
There were plenty of other standout performers too in some difficult conditions in Round 8 of the WAFL.
Subiaco made it seven straight wins with Chris Phelan and captain Kyal Horsley outstanding.
