Administrators - East Perth FC

The late Fred Book served a record term of 20 years as President of the Club. Fred first took up office at East Perth in 1928 when he was elected treasurer. He retired in 1973 after giving a lifetime of dedication and hard work in making a great club greater.

In 1961 East Perth enjoyed one of its most successful years ever, they failed to win the Premiership in the shock football resultof the decade. Fred Book's disappointment was immortalised forever by cartoonist, Paul Rigby in his classical "Laughing Cavalier" cartoon.

"The day of the laughing cavalier...... The worst day in the life of Frederick David Book, our most favoured President and after whom the Perth Oval grandstand is named. We'd beaten Swans 4 times straight, won 18 games in a row and then lost the Grand Final, the year was 1961 and Swans had won their very first premiership."

It was a long wait for Fred and the club between premierships. Malcolm Brown finally brought home the elusive flag in 1972 and there was no one happier than "The Laughing Cavalier".

Alex "Marbles" Wilson's tenure began in 1985 and he led the club through massive changes in the WA football environment, stepping down from the General Manager's position in 2012 and officially retiring in September 2013/ Marbles is still a popular figure around the club on match days.

Current CEO and Royals Life Member Dean Turner took the reins from Marbles in 2012. Dean came to the club after many years as General Manager at Carlton United Breweries.

A number of people who have been associated in an official capacity with East Perth, have gone on to take up important positions in the State football scene. Grant Dorrington, a former player and coach of the club, is now the General Manager of the WAFL. Trevor Nesbitt, former Football Manager is the Chief Executive Officer of the West Coast Eagles. Brian Cook, the former C.E.O.of the West Coast Eagles and now the C.E.O. of the Geelong Football Club is a former player and reserves coach at East Perth. Peter Tannock, the former Chairman of the WA Football Commission, played 50 league games with East Perth.

From this it can be seen that the former and current football hierarchy in Western Australia has a definite East Perth flavour.
