East Perth were left to rue a fast start by Perth that saw the home side kick six goals to one in the opening term at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.
The Royals, led ably by Jackson Ramsay, Scott Jones, Aidan Lynch and Angus Scott in the middle, fought back to get within 11 points at the final change but the Demons kicked four goals to two in the final term to ice the 14.4 (88) to 10.7 (67) win.
Jones, who returned to East Perth after two years on Fremantle’s list, was dominant in the ruck – amassing 38 hit-outs, nine tackles and two goals. Lynch, recruited from West Perth, gathered 32 disposals, 10 inside 50s and kicked a goal in his first game in East Perth colours.
Captain Patrick McGinnity kicked two goals in the second term but didn’t play out the game, succumbing to a groin injury.
Eddie Simpson finished the day with two goals while Mitch Dobson, Jayden Magro and Matt Young also hit the scoreboard.
In the Reserves, Aaron Ballantyne notched his first win as coach in his side’s dominant display over Perth. The Royals, aided by a four goals to one first term, led at every change to secure the 9.8 (62) to 4.7 (31) win.
Colts coach Daniel Curtis secured his maiden win as coach, with a 22-point 11.7 (73) to 7.9 (51) win. The victory was set-up in the first and third terms where the Royals kicked a combined eight goals.
