Royals Review - Rd 16 vs West Coast
Despite kicking the first three, and the last five goals of the game the Royals came up short against a young, but talented, Eagles outfit
A dominant first ten minutes saw East Perth jump to a three-goal lead, however the Eagles midfield quickly wrestled back control to go into half time up by two goals.
The Eagles midfield control continued to through the second and third quarters as East Perth struggled for answers. The defensive pressure that was so evident in last weeks victory against Perth was lacking
Down by 38 points at the last break, East Perth dominated the last quarter and had more than enough chances to snatch an unlikely victory, however a lack of composure at critical time and wayward shots on goal was the Royals demise.
Scott Jones was dominant in the second half, winning the ruck battle against Nathan Vardy, but also taking some outstanding contested marks all over the ground. Matt Young was impressive upfront finishing with three opportunistic goals. Key forward Nick Merritt straightened the side up in his best game in the black and blue finishing with two goals.
The Reserves and Colts played a trial match against the State 19’s. Nearly 40 East Perth players in total played in the trial match with a number of our Colts involved in the WA 19’s squad. Jaxon Cahill played a half in his return from injury and is expected to play in the Reserves this week. Sebit Kuek continued his impressive run of form, whilst Josh Hubbard and Cooper Sparks were also impressive
The Royals now turn their attention to Claremont this Sunday at Leederville Oval. On this day we will be celebrating Member’s Appreciation Day, so make sure you get down to Leederville to support the boys and join in the Members festivities.
