Barnard Re-Signs

Saturday, September 18, 2021 - 8:48 AM

Jeremy Barnard has accepted a one-year contract extension that will see him coach East Perth in 2022.

The East Perth Board and CEO undertook a significant performance review of the Football Department which took into consideration many factors through discussions with several stakeholders.

‘The circumstances the Club has faced in the last three seasons have been some of the most challenging the Club has faced in recent history,’ CEO Dean Turner commented referencing the ending of the partnership with West Coast and two COVID affected seasons.

‘The 2021 season was a disappointing one for us,’ Mr. Turner continued. ‘There were a number of contributing factors for this, many of which were out of our control, and the Board’s decision was that Jeremy be given the opportunity to continue as Head Coach in 2022.’

Part of the review process identified the need for greater coaching support. The Club will now undertake the process of appointing a Director of Coaching. This role will encompass mentoring and developing all coaches throughout the Club from senior level to our Talent Programs (including Youth Girls) and our Wheelchair Football team.

Barnard, a triple Premiership Captain, Life Member and Hall of Fame Inductee of the Royals returned to East Perth at the end of the partnership with the West Coast Eagles in 2018.
