Royals claim victory in clash with Perth
East Perth have broken a two-match losing run to defeat Perth, 14.14 (98) to 11.10 (76), in wet conditions at Medibank Stadium on Saturday.
The club also notched wins in the Reserves (8 points) and Colts (33 points).
East Perth led at every change – kicking six goals in the first quarter, the smallest margin nine points at half time. They held a 15-point advantage at the three quarter-time break, despite Perth briefly hitting the front mid way through the third, and went on to win by 22 points.
The Royals were again without Bernie Naylor Medalist Josh Smith, but were able to find other reliable avenues to goal.
Ash Smith kicked three goals in the first half, with Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Fraser McInnes and Callum Sinclair also contributing with two goals each.
Steven Payne, Craig Wulff, Simon Tunbridge, Josh Hill and Will Maginess kicked a goal each.
Paul Johnson had 38 hit outs and eight tackles and combined well with Sinclair (25 hit outs, 20 possessions and nine marks) taking a 65 to 27 advantage in ground hit outs.
Sam Butler had 27 possessions; Mitch Fraser had 23 touches, Brant Colledge 23, Nathan Blee 21, Freddie Clutterbuck 21, Steven Payne 21, Julian Locantro 20, Simon Tunbridge 20 and Callum Hart 19.
Blayne Wilson was notable in defense in the absence of Kyle Anderson, keeping Paul Bevan to just the one goal.
East Perth will travel to East Fremantle Oval to play the Sharks on Saturday.
Reserves
East Perth’s Reserves, 14.5 (89) to 12.9 (81), victory was bolstered through strong performances from Mitch Howlett (36 disposals, 2 inside 50s), Steven Wityk (19 touches, seven marks), Tom Shanahan (22 disposals, six tackles), and Alex Vernon who kicked two goals apiece.
Dylan Main, Beau Chatley, Jack Keeffe, Lewis Wilson, Jackson Slater, Michael Rimbas kicked one major each. Agid Gardoud and Julian Ameduri also had a notable impact on the final result.
Colts
Tyler Keitel was a standout with five goals from 15 possessions and six marks.
Jake Anderson kicked two goals while Dent, Ipsen, Decke, Armstrong, Young, Kenny, Hille (16 touches, five marks), and Zambotto (19 possessions, three marks) kicked a major each.
