Johnson Named WA Captain
East Perth big man Paul Johnson will lead WA in this weekend’s state match against Tasmania at Steel Blue Oval. It is the 6th time in 7 years the captain of the WA team is a Royal. Thursday the 9th of June 2016 marks the 60 year anniversary of the opening of the grandstand at Perth Oval.
The timber grandstand was removed on 7 November 1955, by Bayswater Roads Board, To make way for the re-orientation of the ground to run north and south and the new grandstand The Roads Board paid three hundred pound for the timber grandstand. To coincide with the AFL indigenous round beginning on the 27 May the Ballajura Black year 7 team will be wearing an indigenous design jumper for their match against Ellenbrook Purple at Karijini oval Saturday 28 May. Designed by Narelle Ryder, the jumper was funded by the team themselves.
The Jumper carries the slogan "Boola Danjoo Yira Yarkiny" which translates to “Many together standing strong/tall"

Horrific conditions down at Bendigo Bank on Saturday proved too much for East Perth as the Royals went down to Peel Thunder by 14 points in a low-scoring wet weather affair.
