Lower South West Development Day
A win's a win!
Despite the dismal weather conditions and sub-par performance on Saturday afternoon, East Perth were able to get the job done 94 to 73 over the East Fremantle Sharks. The Royals have played much better football than they showcased on the weekend, however it was a massive turn around from their 55-point defeat to the Sharks in round 1.
East Fremantle opened the scoring on Saturday with two behinds, but the Royals found their feet and hit back with four goals in as many minutes. Hutchings and Newman were fantastic in helping East Perth take a commanding 23-point lead at the first break.
Sundowner Success
Thank you to Kevin Sheedy and everyone who attended the Sundowner event hosted by Simon Beaumont on the eve of the West Coast v Essendon game (who could forget Sheedy's jacket waving in the face of a rabid crowd at Subiaco Oval!)
It was a great opportunity for football fans to hear some inside tales from one of the game's pioneers. Well done to the lucky punters who were presented with their winning auction items by Brownlow Medallist Ross Glendinning. The Read More [+]
Men's Health Week
KNOW YOUR SCORE!
As part of Men's Health Week, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) have teamed up with the WAFL to encourage men to talk to their doctor about their individual risk of developing prostate cancer.
There will be plenty of activities happening for Round 13 so make sure you're at Medibank Stadium, and make sure you give generously.
• Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men
• Every day 9 Australian men die from this disease
• More men now die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer.
• In WA, around 3,000 men are diagnosed each year, and almost 300 will lose their lives to this disease.
Thunder Reign over Royals
It was a quality contest between Peel and East Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium, but it was the home team who claimed the four competition points to advance to third on the ladder.
East Perth powered out to a 22-point lead to take the advantage at the end of the first quarter, but that 22-point margin ended up in Peel’s favour as the final siren rang. It was a similar state of affairs in round 5 when Peel got the better of East Perth by 23 points, but this time they didn’t do it so easily.
The Royals were sharp and aggressive around the stoppages with some great speed shown by Freddie Clutterbuck and Matt Rosa. They jumped to an early lead at the end of the first break, but Peel responded with four goals from six consecutive shots to open the second quarter. Peel’s big men outplayed East Perth to help snatch the lead at half time by just three points.
Royals Rally to Defeat Swans
The battle between the Royals and the Swans attracted a 4000-strong crowd to Steel Blue Oval for what was arguably the game of the round. In a tightly contested match, East Perth trailed by three goals at the end of the first term before bridging the margin to within one goal at the main break. The Royals never panicked and rallied in the third quarter to pinch the lead by five points and then drove it home in the final term booting three straight goals to record a 17-point victory.

Derby day delight
East Perth recorded an emphatic win on WA Day in front of a passionate crowd for the derby day bash against West Perth. The victory was a well-rounded team performance and a sustained effort for the full four quarters. It came as a much needed win for the Royals who sit just outside the top 5 on equal points with Swan Districts who they take on this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval.
